Alexander Skarsgård is making a few rare comments about parenting
The actor shared that he has to approach his career differently now that he's a father
Skarsgård confirmed he'd welcomed his first baby in March 2023
Everything changed for Alexander Skarsgård when he became a father.
The actor, 49, spoke with Variety for a new profile and gave a few rare comments about being a dad to his child, whom he shares with Swedish actress Tuva Novotny. As he addressed how acting takes him away from his family in Sweden, Skarsgård shared that he approaches his career differently now that he's a dad.
"I lived on the road. I love that aspect of the industry — you're a traveling circus," said Skarsgård. "But now, I need to balance that with family life and making sure I can be present for my kid."
"I can't be as selfish and narcissistic as I was before," he added.

Skarsgård's interview with Variety is one of the first times he's commented on being a dad. The actor confirmed that he'd welcomed his first baby to Entertainment Tonight while attending a March 2023 red carpet premiere for season 4 of HBO's award-winning drama Succession.
Although Skarsgård hit the event without Novotny, he told the outlet when congratulated on the news, "Thank you very much."
The outlet reported that the actor also showcased a stuffed animal he received for the new bundle of joy, expressing, "I got this on the red carpet. Thank you, thank you."
Alongside her child with Skarsgård, Novotny is also mom to a daughter named Ella with ex-Nicolai Bjerrum Lersbryggen.

He told Chelsea Handler in 2017 during a sit-down interview that he was excited to become a father one day.
"I want to beat my dad. He had eight, so I better get cracking, I guess," he joked after the comedian asked him if he wanted to have children. "My dad is 65 and had a kid four years ago. I was born in the '70s. My dad had in the '70s, the '80s, the '90s, in the 2000s, and in 2010. "
He joked that while it was a "madhouse," it "was fun."
"It was lots of people and dogs running around," Skarsgård said. "It was a very kind of bohemian household."
