Obsession, created by former YouTuber Curry Barker, was brought to fruition on a budget of just $750,000 over the course of 20 days, NBC News reported — making its climbing box office numbers even more outstanding.
"Obsession is the ONLY wide-release horror film on record to grow in its second weekend at this scale — $22.4M, up 30% over opening," wrote Jason Blum on X on May 24. Blum is theCEO of horror-focused studio Blumhouse, which produced Obsession. "This doesn't happen in horror."
Since its May 15 release, Obsession has earned $75 million worldwide, with $60.7 million of that total from North American audiences, per Variety.

Deadline previously called Obsession's star Inde Navarrette a "scream queen in the making," among scores of other favorable reviews. In a May interview with PEOPLE, the 25-year-old actress said she's extremely flattered by all the praise surrounding the film, though she's staying away from the social media discourse about it.
"It's a beginning of a new process and a new step in my career and I really want to make sure that I'm protecting myself first, while also giving thanks to everybody who loves the movie," Navarrette told PEOPLE.
Staying off social media makes her real-life interactions with fans of the film even more special, she said. "Whatever I get in person, then it allows me to physically see that person, receive what they're saying and to say ‘thank you' to them directly.”
Obsession is now in theaters.
