Landman star Sam Elliott is sharing his hopes for T.L. and Cheyenne's relationship moving forward.
The actor says he hopes their bond remains "wholesome" as the Taylor Sheridan co-created show heads into its third season.
He also shares a deleted scene from the season 2 finale that he said brought tears to Colm Feore's eyes.
Sam Elliott is sharing his thoughts on his Landman character T.L.’s unique bond with his physical therapist, Cheyenne (Francesca Xuereb).
The actor recently revealed that he hopes the pair of unlikely pals maintain a “wholesome” relationship as the Taylor Sheridan–penned oil drama heads into its forthcoming third season.
“I love that you mentioned Francesca, because she’s overlooked in most all of this stuff that we do,” Elliott told Variety. “And she was a dream to be around, not only to work with, but she’s just a lovely girl. I have no idea what Taylor has in mind for that character. I hope it just remains what it is: this wholesome relationship.”

Both Elliott and Xuereb joined the Golden Globe–nominated series in its second season, with the former portraying the absent father of Billy Bob Thornton’s character Tommy. After T.L. moves with the family, Tommy hires Cheyenne to be his dad’s at-home physiotherapist.
The pair hit it off right away, striking up a flirtationship that sees them strip down to their underwear for some aquatic therapy and later sleep in the same bed. However, T.L. later swears that their relationship is just platonic and credits Cheyenne with cheering him up with her youthful energy.
Speaking with Variety, Elliott recalled a special moment between the pair that was ultimately cut in the season 2 finale. The moment occurred shortly after Tommy made a wisecracking joke about Cheyenne’s sexual history in front of T.L. and the rest of his oil family.
“Her line in response to that was ‘Hardy har har,’” Elliott remembered. “And I said, ‘Yeah.’ And I know that you can’t see it, but at that moment, I reached out and took her hand for whatever reason. But you never see that.”

The gesture was so simple, yet so quietly comforting, that Elliott said it brought tears to his costar Colm Feore’s eyes “because he understood why I did it” in the moment.

It’s easy for Elliott to tap into such stirring emotions given the material written for him by Sheridan. “The stuff that he writes for me, so far, has been from the heart,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun to do it.”
Alongside his friendship with Cheyenne, T.L. was also forced to confront his painful relationship with his son Tommy across season 2. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly in January, Thornton shared that he hopes the pair will continue to remedy their complicated bond next season.

“As a fan, I'm watching and I'm thinking, ‘You know what? I bet he and [T.L.] get closer,’” Thornton hypothesized at the time. “I bet he and his dad repair the relationship.”
He also voiced his desire to see Tommy, T.L., and son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) form a “united front” as they launch their new oil venture, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle. “Whether that's going to happen or not, who knows,” he said. “But I guess that's just the human in me as opposed to the artist. The human in me says, ‘I hope that happens.’”
A release date for Landman season 3 has not been announced, but Thornton recently revealed that the plan is to start filming at the end of August.
