Lizzo recreated Chili's iconic Baby Back Ribs jingle, adding her signature sound with a rap verse and flute solo

The singer shared her personal connection to Chili's, calling herself a “Triple Dipper-A-Holic” and sharing her order at the chain

Lizzo said her wellness journey focuses on positivity and balance

Lizzo is speaking on her rendition of the iconic Chili's Baby Back Ribs jingle.

In an interview with PEOPLE, the Grammy-winning singer, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, talked about how she innovated on the song while staying true to the original and shared how Chili's has been part of her life since childhood.

Lizzo partnered with Chili's to recreate the brand's 1990s earworm, which features the catchy lyric “I want my baby back baby back baby back.”

“I went in the studio and was like, oh, he want his baby back? Well he gon' have to work hard to get me,” Lizzo said of her rendition. “I honestly wrote the verse in like an hour.”

“We wanted to keep the music kind of the same, kind of bluesy and rocking. We just wanted to amp up the energy a little bit,” she added.

In the new jingle, Lizzo keeps the same iconic lyrics for the chorus and adds a flute solo (which she plays on a barbecue rib “flute”), along with a rap section.

“He want his baby back? Then if he act right he can get me back,” Lizzo raps in the song. “I'll be walkin' past, while you're lookin' sad, saying ‘I want my baby back baby back.'”

“I think when you hear one of my records, you can feel how much fun it was making it," she said.

She said it was fun to add the rap verse, stack vocals and do the “barbecue sauce” bass ad lib. She also appreciated the barbecue rib flute addition.

“Chili's asked me to play that damn flute and I was happy to oblige…Sasha's a little sister to me,” she said of her flute, which has been part of her career since she rose to fame in 2019.

“I think [I] Lizzo-fied it, but I don't think they had to do much to Lizzo-fy it," she said of the jingle. "It's very camp, like me."

Lizzo also said it felt “surreal” to get to recreate the Chili's jingle because it's “something that I just sing randomly with my family” and is “a part of culture.”

The artist said that she grew up going to Chili's with her family and always ended dinner with a Molten Lava Cake. She shared that she also went during college when she was feeling homesick.

The singer said she is a “Triple Dipper-A-Holic,” going so far as to make the three-dish combo into a Halloween costume in 2025, when she went as a Chili's Fried Mozzarella piece.

“The Triple Dipper is just everything you need, especially if you're hungover,” Lizzo confided, adding that she gets the Fried Mozzarella, Big Mouth Bites sliders and Southwestern Eggrolls with a Diet Coke.

The singer, who has often opened up about her “weight release journey,” shared how her wellness journey has been about mindset shifts and balance.

“Any change that you want to see, whether it's with yourself or with your life starts [in your mind] first, you have to make that decision,” she said.

“I'm beyond at my goal with my weight. I'm very happy with where I am. It's going to fluctuate, but I'm a happy girl,” she added.

Lizzo said her wellness goals change constantly, but her current goal is flexibility. She said it's all about staying “super positive.”

“I'll tell you what, with a Chili's Triple Dipper in me or the Chili's mozzarella stick in me honey, those goals get a little harder. But it's all good because you got to take every day in moderation,” she said.

Chili's Baby Back Ribs have been upgraded and are now available with 50% more ribs and a caramelized barbecue sauce crust. Starting on Wednesday, May 27, rewards members can also enter a giveaway for a chance to win two tickets to Lizzo's upcoming tour.

The singer's new album 𝖡̶𝖨̶𝖳̶𝖢̶𝖧̶ is out June 5.

She said her boyfriend Myke Wright shot and directed a vacation music video for a song off the album in St. Barth's.

“I felt so supported by him, and it was his idea. He was like, let's make some content,' she said, adding that “he's super talented.”
