After day one of the two-day hearing, Associated Newspapers Limited has demanded at least $13.3 million from Prince Harry and the other claimants.

Earlier this month, the Duke of Sussex and six others, who had filed a lawsuit against the publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail, lost their case.

Judge Mr Justice Nicklin sided in favor of the Associated Newspapers and said the seven claimants had failed to prove their allegations.

It was then assumed that the Duke of Sussex and the other claimants might have to pay a legal fee, following the hearing on July 29.

ANL Seeking ‘Indemnity Basis’ Costs From Claimants

Radar Online reports that ANL’s lawyer, Anthony White, argued that Prince Harry and the other claimants’ lawsuit amounted to “a banquet of litigation” built on “baseless allegations.”

White also told the court that the publisher had spent around $45 million defending the case. Therefore, he urged the court to award costs on the stricter “indemnity basis.”

Now, under the indemnity costs order, the successful party (ANL) can recover a larger share of its legal expenses than under the standard costs rules.

Further in their demands, ANL sought an interim payment of $13.3 million from the claimants. But so far, the claimants have offered only $10 million as an advance payment.

They also claimed to have $21 million in insurance coverage available to cover ANL’s legal costs. Meanwhile, ANL’s court submission read:

“Of course, the (claimants) accept that their claims have been dismissed and it is appropriate that an order for costs on the standard basis follows the event.”

Prince Harry Might Need Financial Aid to Pay Legal Costs

Amid the ANL lawyer seeking indemnity costs from Prince Harry and the other claimants, a palace insider told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice that the Duke of Sussex might seek help to pay off his legal costs.

According to the source, the 41-year-old might turn to his father for financial aid in the dire situation. “It’s amazing how family suddenly becomes important when the bills arrive,” they said.

The source added, “Harry knows his father is one of the few people on earth who could write a check that size without blinking. Whether he actually will is another story.” This Intel comes after the prince’s recent UK visit.

Prince Harry and King Charles had the opportunity to have a private meeting alongside Meghan Markle and the two children, Archie and Lilibet. So now, given how the prince “doesn’t have any money,” sources believe he might seek help from his father.
