Prince William was no doubt thrilled as his beloved Aston Villa soccer team won the UEFA Europa League Championship on May 20.
The Prince of Wales was in the stands for the game and was seen filming celebrations on his phone after the victory.
The future king declined a call so as not to interrupt filming—and royal fans are curious who the call might have been from.
It’s a question that has lit up the royals corner of the internet: Whose call did Prince William decline as he filmed a video at the UEFA Europa League championship?
On May 20, the Prince of Wales was on hand in Turkey watching his beloved Aston Villa soccer team score a major victory. As he filmed the celebrations on his phone, the future king ignored an incoming call in a moment shared on social media. Though the caller’s name isn’t visible, it’s clear that William declines the call from whoever it was so he could continue filming.

A video William filmed on Thursday night ended up on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s Instagram account, where he wrote alongside it, “What a night. Thank you to Turkey for hosting a great final. Incredible atmosphere and great sportsmanship from Freiburg. Enjoy the parade, Birmingham.” He signed the post “W,” indicating the message had come directly from him.
In a separate post, the Prince of Wales wrote, “Amazing night!! Huge congratulations to all the players, team, staff, and everyone connected to the club! 44 years since the last taste of European silverware!”
“Special shout out to Boubacar Kamara, who has been out injured but is such an integral part of our team and helped lay the foundations of this success,” William continued. Kamara is Aston Villa’s midfielder who will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, per People.

William has been an Aston Villa fan for decades and explained the origin of his fandom to the BBC in 2015. “A long time ago at school, I got into football big time,” he said. “I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans, and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams.”
“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments,” he added.

William’s eldest child Prince George has followed in his father’s footsteps by supporting Aston Villa, but it seems his daughter Princess Charlotte is leaning in a different direction. While visiting Cornwall on May 21—the day after Aston Villa’s big win—William said, “My daughter loves Chelsea,” per The Daily Mail. The Princess of Wales, too, is a fan of Chelsea, the outlet reported.

William previously told The Sun of his children, “I’m kind of hoping they’ll all find their own teams in time. They don’t all have to be Villa fans.”
“I’m trying not to be biased, but obviously they see how passionate I am about it and they watch the matches with me,” he continued.
