Scottie Scheffler slammed his driver on the tee in a moment of frustration during his failed attempt at back-to-back trophies at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday.
Wyndham Clark secured victory at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, before he and Amanda Balionis shared an awkward moment during the post-round interview. Scheffler wasn't far off the pace after capturing the tournament a year ago near his hometown of Dallas.
Rather than claiming victory, Scheffler found himself slamming his club on the tee box, an unusual display for the World No. 1 who typically maintains a composed demeanor. It comes after Vanessa Trump's 54 days of hell emerge amid Tiger Woods' battle.

Scheffler's tee shot on the 487-yard par-4 13th hole veered left, and the World No. 1 showed his displeasure as he attempted to remain competitive while Clark extended his lead during the final round.
Scheffler was forced to play his approach from the dried grass outside the left rough, and he dug his driver into the tee box as the ball sailed through the air.

As Clark recorded an eagle on the 12th hole, Scheffler fell out of contention and fans flocked to social media to voice their reactions. "Scottie is COOKED," one user posted online.

"People are asking 'what's wrong with Scottie?'NOTHING. He's 25 under par. He's behind two guys today who are a combined 56 under par," another commented.
A third observer also noted, "This is when I knew it was over for Scottie. Frustration started to show." Following online criticism from fans, Scheffler acknowledged Clark's exceptional weekend performance after his victory.
"Yesterday he putted really, really good," Scheffler said on Sunday. "The only putt I can really remember him missing, he missed two putts on the last couple holes. Outside of that, he was holing everything yesterday. Sometimes you've just got to tip your cap and say good playing, and 60 was going to be pretty tough to beat today.
"Overall, I'm proud of this week for myself, but I wish I could have gotten a few more shots out of it. Overall, Wyndham played great golf." Scheffler finished in third place at TPC Craig Ranch.
"It was a good week," said Scheffler. "Like I said, it's always fun to play in my hometown. The crowd support was great this week. Like I said, it was a lot of fun.
"I wish I would have made a few more birdies, but overall it was a lot of fun."
It comes after Rory McIlroy said every golfer at the PGA Championship has the same view about Aaron Rai.
