The highly anticipated next installment of the HBO hit has been filming in France since last month, and ironically the first look at the series is set at the premier movie festival.

New photos show Laura Dern, Marissa Long, and Chris Messina filming scenes on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival, just days after the annual celebration of cinema wrapped its 2026 version.

Once again written and directed by creator Mike White, *The White Lotus* season 4 will follow a new group of hotel guests and employees during the week of the France-set festival.

Dern was a late addition to the cast, after Helena Bonham Carter departed the show early in production.

"It had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set," HBO said in a statement. "The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won't get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon."

A week later, Dern, a longtime collaborator of White, signed for a new role that was specifically developed for the Emmy winner, who, in season 2, voiced the unseen wife of Michael Imperioli's Dominic.

The *White Lotus* season 4 cast also includes Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Chloe Bennet, AJ Michalka, Ari Graynor, Alexander Ludwig, Sandra Bernhard, and Rosie Perez.
