Katherine LaNasa reveals how she unwinds after filming The Pitt
The actress says she relies on a deep-tissue massage that āalmost murdersā her
The actress earned her first Emmy for her role as charge nurse Dana Evans in the HBO Max drama
Katherine LaNasa has found the perfect way to wind down after filming The Pitt.
The 59-year-old actress opened up to PEOPLE at the Gracie Awards on Tuesday, May 19 about how she shakes off the intensity of filming the HBO Max medical drama, in which she portrays charge nurse Dana Evans.
ā[My character] got punched last year in season 1, and having to live through that crisis of faith and that existential crisis, if you will, that she was going through ā that was really hard,ā LaNasa shared.
āI went to the spa a lot, whenever I could, just to kind of, like, chill,ā she added.

She noted that she wasnāt as used to the emotional toll it took to play the character, "particularly in the first season,ā and during that time she āneeded a lot of alone timeā and āregenerative timeā to feel like herself again.
However, LaNasa has gotten a bit more used to the stressors and how to handle them by the second season, which finished airing last month, and even has a go-to spa order.
āUsually, I do a very deep tissue massage," she says and jokes that the masseuse "mostly almost murders me."

The hard work on the show has paid off for LaNasa, who earned her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for the role last year. She opened up to PEOPLE in October about how the win changed her mindset returning to the second season of The Pitt.
"I think in season 1, I shined from the back," LaNasa told PEOPLE at the time. "And I didn't know that I was, but that happened. And now I'm more in the front."
"So it's like, can I shine in the front, can I lead from the front? We have to see,ā she added.
She said that the way to work through any anxiety surrounding it was to "really just do the work" and "know your lines."
